Wang Chao is a native of Wudi County, Binzhou City, Shandong Province. Influenced by his family from an early age, he developed a passion for ceramics and began learning ceramic craftsmanship. He is an inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of Yellow River Clay Pottery in Binzhou, and was named one of the First Binzhou Masters of Arts and Crafts in 2018.
Art Experience and Technical Innovation
In his early years, he studied purple clay pottery under Qiu Yulin, a Chinese Ceramic Art Master in Yixing, and specialized in the design and creation of purple clay teapots.
After returning to Binzhou in 2016, he devoted years to research and successfully revived the firing of practical wares such as teapots and cups using Yellow River clay, creating a unique artistic style and pioneering the nationwide use of Yellow River clay for making daily utensils. He also successfully restored the firing technique of Yellow River Chengni Inkstones.
Through long-term experimentation, he revived the incense ash glazed pottery craftsmanship of the Tang and Song dynasties unearthed from Dajue Temple in Wudi, forming his distinctive Mi Xiang Dao and Dajue Tao product series.
